Woodlands Morph

This week's mug is brand new, a gift from a friend up north. (And by 'up north' I mean Canada!) The mug shows a bunch of trees in a wrap around design with eyes visible in the surrounding darkness.

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the entire darkness clears to show a daytime scene with leaves on the trees and a dear, fox, squirrel, bunny, and a deer attached to those eyes.

Since it's new, this mug even came with its own full color box, in three languages!
Thanks to that great friend!

Champion Water Heaters

This week's mug is from Champion Water Heaters.  The left side of the mug shows the name and logo, Champion Water Heaters.

On the right side of the mug is the phrase "We Keep You In Hot" in  bright red letters over a dark water looking area.

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the dark 'water' area clears to show the word SALES in big red letters.  This is one of the best designs I've found for advertising with a magic mug.  Your mind sees the dark water and you automatically finish the phrase "We Keep You In Hot" with the word WATER.  Hot water from a Water Heater, seems obvious. But the company gave these mugs to stores who sold their product and used SALES for the kicker.

Even with the chip missing on one edge, this is a great mug with good color change and is one of my favorites!

TSU - Tennessee State University

This week's mug is one of the New type of magic mugs, with the Thermochromatic Ink covering the entire mug (but not the insides.) This mug is from TSU - Tennessee State University.  The mug appears fully black on both sides as well as the handle, but has the letters T - S - U running down on the left side.  They are dark blue and are almost hidden in the dark.

When hot liquid is added, the entire mug clears to reveal the name Tennessee State University, utilizing the three letters from before. Below is their website, www.tnstate.edu.  As stated before, this is the new type of thermo ink, in that it covers the entire mug, including the handle. You can see that even the warm parts of the handle are turning clear.  This new thermo ink is smoother and has a better shine than the old thermo ink.

It is interesting to note that the dark blue letters TSU are not 'masked' as in most older Magic Mugs. In this case the dark blue letters are applied OVER the Thermo Ink.  (Evidenced by a scratch across one letter being near invisible until the color change.)

The color change is spectacular, though the design could be a bit better. After all, there is nothing on the right side of the mug.  One would expect the designers to at least double the Tennessee State University logo on both sides.

DESIGN:  Full, though only one sided actual design.

NyNex Allink

This week's mug is from NYNEX (a telephone company which served 5 New England States from 1984 to 1997) which introduced their management tool Allink in 1994.  On the right side of the mug is the logo for NYNEX and the name Allink.
On the left side of the mug is drawing of a chaotic grouping of computers and equipment.
When hot liquid is added to the mug, the drawing completely clears to reveal the name and logo again NYNEX Allink and a stylized globe. Below this is the phrase "The network management solution."

This mug is in great shape although the color change is only about average.

COMDISCO

This week's mug is from a world leader, Comdisco.  The mug features the corporate logo, above which is the phrase "At Upgrade Time" and the company name below.  In front of the logo, obscuring it slightly is the figure of a hunched over worker.

When hot liquids are added to the mug, the back of the figure clears to reveal the phrase "We won't turn our backs on you."

The mug is in good condition, though the color change is not as good as I'd like.  Comdisco went bankrupt just this last year, so this is sort of a nice collector's piece.

TMS - New Orleans 1989

This week's mug is a bit of a mystery.  The company TMS doesn't seem to exist anymore, and I cannot find any history on it at all.  The mug features a large dark area above what can be construed to be the corporate logo "TMS."

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the area above the logo clears to reveal a 'mardi-gras' style mask and the words "New Orleans 1989."  This suggests that the mug was a souvenir from some convention or seminar held by "TMS" in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1989.  As I say, nothing else is found.

The mug is in good condition, though the color change is not as complete as new.

S.M. Stoller Corporation

This week's mug is another microwave damaged mug, but still shows what a great design it had.  It is from the S.M. Stoller corporation and shows an all-in-one type computer with a dark screen. Below the computer is the name "The S. M. Stoller Corporation" and "a subsidiary of Arthur D. Little, Inc. and a phone number.

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the screen clears to reveal the phrase "The World's only proven unmanned [unkn] access door control system."   Some of the information is unreadable, but the design shows a lot.
