This is the second in the PBS Mystery Series of Magic Mugs. Based on the drawings of Edward Gorey, they match the drawings used at the beginning of the PBS Mystery TV Series. This mug depicts a woman lounging in a room, eating a snack with coffee. To the left is a large vase with big leaves. To the right is a small statue resting on a pedestal, framed by a large dark curtain. Beneath her is her cat.
According to what I've researched, the mugs depict an actual mystery with all clues in the drawing.
When hot liquid is added to the mug, the scene changes in many ways. he woman has finished her snack (evidence of the snack is Magic Ink and disappears when hot!) The cat is no longer beneath our heroine, but is on the vase, the leaves transparent. The statue is gone! The curtain is also now cleared to reveal the PBS Mystery Logo and what's this? - A sinister fellow with the statue in hand! But never fear, for off to the left, now revealed: a helicopter hovers, no doubt searching for the thief just in the nick of time!
This mug is one of my favorites as it has more than just the usual image reveal. It has a whole story! The color change is not as complete as I'd like, but it still does change, and is perfect in my collection.
