Johnson Electric

This month's mug comes from Johnson Electric.  It is a totally black mug on all sides, including the handle.  

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the entire mug clears (including any part of the handle that gets hot) to reveal an ad for Johnson Electric.  The large logo and name are on the front of the mug, with the subtext "Innovating Motion" and "One Johnson Learning." 

The mug is in excellent condition and the color change is perfect.

MINECRAFT

 This month's mug is from the online building game, MINECRAFT.  On the outside of the mug on all sides are shapes used in the game, from types of blocks, pickaxes, and swords, to the face of the Creeper himself. The shapes and MINECRAFT logo are all shades of green on a black background.  

When hot liquid is added, the entire black surface becomes transparent to reveal a blocky green background on the right side of the mug along with the words "BUILD," "EXPLORE," and "CREATE." On the left side of the mug is the face of the Creeper, a character within the game! 

The mug is brand new, and comes in its own special folder/box.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

This month's mug is perfect for October.  A special find, this mug is from the Disney Movie "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas."  

On the right side of the mug is the logo for the movie along with many known characters from the movie and the Halloween season, including bats, spiders and Oogie Boogie. These characters are in dark brown and wrap around to the left side of the mug where Jack Skellington and his girlfriend, Sally can be found.  

 

 

When hot liquids are added to the mug, the dark brown areas clear to reveal the characters in yellow.  

Additionally unique is the fact that this mug has ANGLED sides.  There are only a few mugs with angled sides found in my collection and elsewhere.  

Though used, the mug is in excellent condition and the color change is fast and complete.

This Old House

This week's mug is a wonderful find!  A new neighbor discovered my love of Magic Mugs and found she had one in storage.  She brought it to me out of the blue and what a great mug it is! From the PBS television show "This Old House with Bob Vila," this mug was given out to subscribers during one of the annual subscription/donation telethons. My estimate is mid to late 1990s, which is when this 'old style' of ink was popular.  

On the right side of the mug (above) is the logo for the show, This Old House.  As you turn the mug around, a long image of a house and it's fence stretches around from the left to the center of the mug. 

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the house and fence clear to show a brand new 'fixed up' home.  The color change is good and there are no nicks or damage.

Ocean Life

Another great mug with a questionable background.  A nifty Thrift Store find, the mug features a wrap around design of a deep blue ocean with four dolphins frolicking about in the water.  Beside the graphic it says "Wondermugs U.S.A."  

 

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the dark parts of the ocean clear to reveal more dolphins under the water along with a family of manatees.  

Being from a Thrift Store, the mug is considered used, but the color change is fast and beautiful.

AVENGERS - Earth's Mightiest Heros

This week's mug is a promotiional mug from the Marvel Avengers franchise.  On the right side of the mug you see the words "Earth's Mightiest Heroes."  Each of the letters shows parts of Marvel movie characters.  On the left side of the mug is the Avenger Logo with even more character shots.  

When hot, the entire mug clears to show the characters in full drawn as they appear in the comic books.  L to R:.  Thor, Wasp, Captain America, Vision, Black Panther and Hulk.

This mug is brand new and comes in its own full color protective sleeve.

Star Wars - A New Hope

This week's mug is a special find.  It is a mug I didn't even know existed!  It is a mug which honors the Star Wars Movie Series, with an iconic scene from the 1st Movie, subtitled A New Hope. The mug is 'mechanical styled' to match the Star Wars aesthetic.  On the left side of the mug is the well known icons for Star Wars on a matte grey surface.  On the right side of the mug is a wide band of blue, containing the Robot/Droid R2D2.  

When hot liquid is added, the area to the left of R2D2 clears to reveal the projection message that Princess Leia implanted in the droid to send to the resistance. Oddly the wide band of blue, which stretches almost two thirds of the distance around the mug, is rather deceptive in that there is so much room for the magic effect, and yet so little is really utilized.  

The mug is brand new and the color change is excellent.  Rather than come in a box, the mug comes with a protective plastic sleeve on which is shown the same color change that the mug produces.  In addition, they include instructions stuck to the inside of the mug.

Constellations Mug

This month's mug is a real find.  When cold, it appears black with irregular dots like stars fully around it.  

 When hot liquid is added to the mug, the full mug clears to show a collection of constellations and their corresponding character shape.  They are (above, left to right) 

Castor and Pollux (Gemini), Scorpius (The Scropion), Orion (The Warrior), Taurus (The Bull), Ursa Major (The Bear), Ursa Minor (the Small Bear), Cassiopea (The Queen), Persius (The Slayer of Medusa), Andromeda (The Princess), Hercules (the Half Man/Half God), and Saggitarius (The Centaur) 

The mug is in very good shape and the color change is very good. A wonderful new addition to the collection.
