PBS Mystery #2

This is the second in the PBS Mystery Series of Magic Mugs.  Based on the drawings of Edward Gorey, they match the drawings used at the beginning of the PBS Mystery TV Series.  This mug depicts a woman lounging in a room, eating a snack with coffee.  To the left is a large vase with big leaves.  To the right is a small statue resting on a pedestal, framed by a large dark curtain.  Beneath her is her cat.

According to what I've researched, the mugs depict an actual mystery with all clues in the drawing.

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the scene changes in many ways. he woman has finished her snack (evidence of the snack is Magic Ink and disappears when hot!)  The cat is no longer beneath our heroine, but is on the vase, the leaves transparent. The statue is gone!  The curtain is also now cleared to reveal the PBS Mystery Logo and what's this? - A sinister fellow with the statue in hand!  But never fear, for off to the left, now revealed: a helicopter hovers, no doubt searching for the thief just in the nick of time!

This mug is one of my favorites as it has more than just the usual image reveal. It has a whole story!  The color change is not as complete as I'd like, but it still does change, and is perfect in my collection.

Star Wars - May the Force Be With You

In keeping with the last two new mugs I posted, (Yoda and Darth Vader) I thought I'd add my other Star Wars Mug.  This is a simple mug from the 1980's with the Star Wars logo on the left side of the mug.

When hot liquid is added, the entire logo clears to reveal the phrase "MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU." The color change is about average as it is an older mug, but I do enjoy having it just the same.

Yoda - Do or Do Not

This week's mug is another Star Wars mug I received this last Christmas!  Shown on the side opposite the handle is a picture of Star Wars' Master Yoda holding his unlit light saber.
The rest of the mug is a plain black.

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the sides both clear to reveal in green the well known quote of Yoda's "Do, or do not. There is no try."

In addition, the figure of Yoda is now holding a fully lit and extended light saber!  A wonderful use of the thermo-ink!

Since it's brand new, it also came with a full color box!  The color change is quick and complete as this is a new mug! A wonderful addition to this geek's collection!

Darth Vader - The Dark Side

This is another mug I received for Christmas this past month and I love its use of the thermo-ink!  This mug shows Star Wars' Darth Vader on the outside of the mug, opposite the handle posed with his light saber handle.  The rest of the mug is black as you can see below.
When hot liquid is added, the design reveals:
On the left and right sides of the mug, the full phrase "You don't know the power of the Dark Side." in bold red.
Not only that, but the figure of Darth Vader is now revealed to be holding his light saber fully extended!  What a great mug.

In addition, it also came with a full color box!  The color change is quick and complete as this is a new mug! A wonderful addition to this geek's collection!

Marvel's Deadpool

There was no post last week, so you didn't miss anything.  I was out of town, happy holidaying with relatives and preparing for this week's post.  Y'see, I got 3 great new mugs for Christmas, and I'm going to spread them out over the next three weeks.
This first mug is from one of my favorite movies and yes, one of my favorite comic book characters.  (Yes, I am a geek, a nerd from way back!)  On the two sides of the mug, is the Deadpool name on a field of black along with the iconic Deadpool Logo. Inside the mug is bright red (sort of like Deadpool himself, but I digress.)

When hot liquid is poured into the mug, the entire mug clears to reveal Deadpool in all his glory, mid attack, even shouting "Outta the way, NERD!" on both sides of the mug.

The design carries all the way around the mug giving it a full 3 sided change.   In addition, this mug is much larger than most  magic mugs and holds a whopping 18  ounces!

The color change is quick and complete (Hey, it's new!) and one of my favorite new mugs.  (To be honest, I received TWO of these mugs for Christmas!)

Denny's Christmas Scrooge

This is the last in this series of 4 Christmas Magic Mugs from Denny's Restaurant.  The mug also features the iconic Denny's logo on the right side of the mug.
On the left side of the mug is a dark drawing of Ebeneezer Scrooge (from Dickens' A Christmas Carol) complete with grimace and his signature phrase "Bah, Humbug!" above him.
When hot liquid is added, the entire dark area clears to show Ebeneezer happy, with a big smile and the phase "Happy Holidays" above him.

The color change is great and is one of my favorite mugs in this series.

Denny's Christmas Ornament

This is the third in the Denny's Christmas Mug collection.  On the right side of the mug is the iconic Denny's logo.
On the left side of the mug is a christmas ornament with a frowning, sad face.  The entire ornament is a dull dark brown color.
When hot liquid is added to the mug, the entire dark ornament becomes translucent and the smiling face of Santa Claus appears.

The color change is about average, but it's a great addition to the collection.
