1986 Florida Baptist Convention

This week's mug is from the 1986 Florida Baptist State Sunday School Convention and highlights their "Challenge 10/90" which was a challenge created to increase Sunday School enrollment between 1986 to 1990. Beautiful graphics and title sit above a dark rectangle at the bottom.

 

When hot liquid is added, the rectangle turns clear to reveal the words: "The Florida Challenge, 150,440 Enrollment Increase 1986 - 1990"  Though the mug is microwave damaged, it still has a bit of change and I love having it as a part of this collection.

UNASYN B Fragilis Buster

 

This week's mug is another in a long line of mugs made for prescription drugs which were given out to doctors when a new drug is introduced.  In this case, Unasyn  or 'ampicillin sodium/sulbactam sodium) which is an injectable antibacterial treatment.  Also on the left side of the mug is the phrase "B fragilis BUSTER" (B fragilis is also known as Bacteroides fragilis.)  Above all the Latin is a drawing of three of the Bacteroides fragilis in orange. 

 

On the right side of the mug is the logo or insignia for Unasyn and it's Latin equivalent.  

 

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the orange  bacterium turn clear to again show the name and Latin equivalent for the medicine.  A beautiful mug in this group.

MTV

 

This week's mug comes from MTV, the Music Television Channel. The mug features a full 3 sided wrap around design of an artist painting on an easel.   On the artist's pallet is the MTV Logo and on the easel is a dark square.  (This mug has a bit of microwave damage and the square isn't as opaque as it should be.)

When hot liquid is added, the square on the pallet clears to again show the MTV logo.  It's a great mug even though the color change isn't as clear as it should be. 

 

I have no history on this mug, and can only guess that it was a corporate giveaway to either clients or customers.  Either way it's a great mug.

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee Winterfest

 

This week's mug is a locally found mug.  It comes from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee (home of Dollywood!)  The 3 sided mug shows snow covered mountains at night.  A moon and starts are visible against a dark blue sky.  Below the drawing is the large caption, "PIGEON FORGE, TENNESSEE."

 

 

When hot liquid is added, the entire sky clears to show the name 'Winterfest'. 

 

Winterfest in Pigeon Forge is a nearly 4 month long celebration of winter in teh Smokie mountains.  It kicks off in mid November with a celebration of music and free rides.

The mug is a retail purchase item and is in great shape.  3 sided designs are my favorite!

Denny's Restaurants - Connecting People

Denny's Restaurants are not new to the magic mug.  This is just one of their long line of mugs for advertising their restaurants.  On the right side of the mug is the Denny's Logo with the phrase "Connecting People."

On the left side of the mug is a cartoon drawing of a woman using her phone. Next to her is a large dark area highlighted by a moon and many stars.  (Note that one of the stars is yellow where the rest are white.) At the bottom of the dark area is the phrase "Don't be in the dark."

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the large dark area clears to show that the woman is connected to another phone and three people emerge (One wearing a yellow tee shirt which is what made the yellow star.) Also is visible the phrase "Beep A Buddie."

Although there is little on this campaign, it suggests that people can or should stay more connected to one another as much as possible using their phones or perhaps creating a phone tree for emergencies.

TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More

This mug is a bit of an anomaly.  Most of the mugs in my collection are identifiable as being from a company or associated with a product.  A few are retail gifts, and then there is this.  The mug has a huge dark rectangle on the side below which is printed "T*E*A*M Together Everyone Achieves More."  This word and phrase is part of an exercise which is part of many corporate team seminars. The mug was most likely given to seminar attendees. 

Amazingly enough, that's all that is on the mug.  There is no company or corporate logo. 

When hot liquid is added, the large square clears to show a brightly colored puzzle piece on a dark puzzle background.  The mug is in great shape and color change is quick and complete.

Bloomberg Financial Markets

This week's mug is from Bloomberg Financial Markets Commodities News and this is printed on both sides of the mug at the top.  On the right side of the mug there is also a dark brown square below the title.  

When hot liquid is added, the dark brown square clears to reveal graphs labeled "Graph Monitor."  These are, no doubt, ties to commodities and the fluctuating commodities markets.  

This mug was given to both employees and business clients for Bloomberg.

Medical Office Systems Conglomerate

This is a really interesting mug from a Medical Office Conglomerate.  On two sides of the mug is a dark orange square with a deer's head in dark brown.  There is no name visible until the change occurs. 

When hot liquid is added, both the deer and the orange square clear to reveal the company's 800 phone number and the names of its company offices, each with its own name.  Elk Valley Health Systems, Mid-Sate Medical Equipment, Mid-State Pharmacy, Elk Valley Home Health Care, Maury Home Health Care, Cedar Creek Home Health Care, Gericare Home Health Care and Oneida Home Health Care.  At the top is the phrase "One Call Does It All."

This is a beautiful mug, with great graphics and has a two color change.

Disney's The Lion King

This is another mug from the beginning of my collection. It is a Disney© Magic Mug with a full wrap around design from the movie "The Lion King."  This scene is one of  the most memorable, where Simba sits in the Veldt at night looking at the sky, and his father's face shows up in the stars.  The full wrap around design shows Simba on the left side of the mug and the Veldt stretches across the other two sides. 

When hot liquid is added, a part of the night sky clears on the right side of the mug, showing Simba's father's face in the night sky. One of my favorites and one of my daughter's favorites, too!

Like a Thief in the Night

This is the second mug in the set of two I picked up last week.  It is also a wrap around design, showing the outline of a city at night with a crescent moon and stars above.  In the lower right is the phrase "©LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT"

When hot liquid is added, the entire design clears to show buildings with their lights on, and the figure of Jesus Christ in a bright blue sky with rays of yellow coming from behind him.  

This is a beautiful use of the thermochromic change and I look forward to finding more in this series.

The King is Coming

In my collecting of these incredible mugs, I've found mugs from just about every industry.  This last weekend, I found two mugs from a different perspective, Christian Religion.

This first mug shows a drawing of the sky, with a bunch of fluffy clouds.  Upper right of this wrap around design is a dark blue area of sky.  To the lower right, is "© THE KING IS COMING"

When hot liquid is added the dark blue sky clears to show a light blue sky, with rays of light coming from the figure of Jesus Christ.  The mug is like new and the color change is quick and complete.

Atlanta 1996

This week's mug is from the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.  On the left side of the mug is a large dark area, with a pattern of leaves above the words "Atlanta 1996" (separated by the Olympic Torch.) Notable on this mug is a gold rim (though it is unsure if it is gold flake or just a gold paint.)

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the entire dark area clears to reveal a light area with the leaves in dark green ink above a dark green quilt like pattern.  Sold at the Atlanta Games, this is a great souvenir mug.

Coreg Prescription

This is a really pretty mug from Coreg prescription medicine.  On both the right and left side of the mug is the logo and generic name for Coreg: Carvedilol.  On the front of the mug is a purple shape, reminiscent of a paint brush colored haphazardly. 

Wen hot liquid is added, this brushed design clears to show a modern heart shape.  Coreg is for high blood pressure, and to prevent heart disease, so a heart is a great addition to this design.

This is a beautiful mug, with a great color change.  It is the kind that is given to Drs' offices to advertise the product.

Ameristar Casino

This week's mug is from the Ameristar Casino. On the left side of the mug is the logo for the Ameristar Casino on a dark background. 

When hot liquid is added to the mug, the background clears to reveal a set of 3 lucky 7s above the logo and a stack of gold coins below.
