Welcome to Doug's Mugs. I have a LARGE collection of Special Coffee Mugs which I have picked up over the last 25-30 years. They are called MAGIC MUGS but go by many brand names. This means that due to the clever use of "thermochromatic ink," part of the design changes because this thermochromatic ink turns clear or translucent when it gets hot. (Pour in a hot beverage, and see the change happen before your eyes!) Here, at Doug's Mugs, you can find my collection, one mug at a time. I hope you enjoy.
If you have one and wish to add to the collection, please contact me!
How It Got Started:
It all started some 30 or so years ago. My wife and I had moved across country on a spur of the moment, and needed to add some things to our home. Off to the thrift store! We furnished our entire apartment, and picked up such things as silverware, dishes and yes, coffee mugs.
At the time, I didn't look at what I was getting. We needed only a couple, so I grabbed two that were there and took the home. It was days later that I discovered they were Magic Mugs! I was drinking my morning coffee when my wife's eyes went to the design. She thought the ink was rubbing off!
Thus began my long love of magic mugs. Most I've found in thrift stores, many have been sent to me by my 'fans' and family. For some reason they are becoming harder and harder to find in the thrift stores, but I will keep looking.
The blog will remain even after I get to the end of my collection as I expect to be adding new ones for many years to come.

Doug, I entered a comment earlier. I have a mug I really like in it's "HOT" mode but want to use it for a project in which it cannot be hot. What can I do to remove or disable the thermochromic ink? Any help would be appreciated. Ellen
